Jaisalmer Saraswati River

29 Dec Saturday, Jaisalmer: A geological water incident occurred on Saturday in the Mohangarh canal of Jaisalmer. A tubewell drilling operation collapsed the ground, releasing water and gas under extreme flow and pressure. This fountain created a 10-foot-high jet of water, startling villagers nearby who fled in panic. During the drilling operation, at 850 feet deep, a fountain of water and gas erupted suddenly from the ground, causing the ground to collapse, sinking the drilling machine and truck into the ground and turning it into a pond.

After 24 hours, the flow of water has not stopped and has left a deep trench in the barren land of Jaisalmer. This incident is striking conversations on social media about the possibility of this water coming from the ancient Saraswati River. Videos of this incident are surfacing on social media. Senior groundwater scientist Dr. Narayan Das states that the incident is likely to result from an artesian condition. There was a breach in a buried groundwater reservoir within the trasseri sandstone formation causing pressurized saline water mixed with white sand to come out forcefully. Dr.Inkhia warned that the flow might continue for some days and advised to not approach the area as a caution for an an incident. The area surrounding has been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The possibility of the incident connected with the resurfacing of the Saraswati River is not confirmed. The videos around the internet are all true but the assumption made regarding the water flow of the Saraswati River is not backed by any proof. Groundwater scientist also said that the incident of the sudden inflow of so much water while digging the borewell surprised everyone. This is a matter of investigation, on which further information will be given. Therefore, the claim that the water flowing from underground in Mohangarh is from the Saraswati River is misleading.
